This poster summarizes the quantified benefits of investing in mitigation measures that exceed select provisions of the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and International Wildland-Urban Interface Code (IWUIC). It presents national benefit-cost ratios for mitigation strategies addressing riverine flooding, hurricane surge, wind, earthquake, and wildland-urban interface fire, based on both federal grant-funded projects and beyond-code construction. The poster highlights specific mitigation actions such as elevating buildings, strengthening structures, and using fire-resistant materials, and demonstrates the economic and safety advantages of proactive building practices.
