
This report analyzes the effects of extreme snow loads on four school buildings in Massachusetts and New Hampshire during the 2014–2015 winter. It documents observed roof failures, structural damage, and snow drift loading conditions, and provides conclusions on the adequacy of existing roof systems relative to current snow load requirements. The report includes recommendations for updating FEMA guidance and building codes to address observed vulnerabilities in school buildings. It is intended for building professionals and officials involved in the design, assessment, and maintenance of essential facilities.
